Cherry Blossom season was scheduled to commend on Friday 22 March in Tokyo. We think it might be a few days late due to a sudden cold snap over the last few days.

However, we couldn’t be in Tokyo this week without at least trying to see to cherry blossom so today in honour of our last day in Japan was a tourist day. After breakfast we headed over to Yoyogi Park.

Deciding to follow the crowds we actually ended up at the Meiji Shrine. We found the sake and wine that are stored for Meiji ceremonial occasions….

Then on to the shrine…

We found a back way to go back to the main gate to get to the Cherry Blossom Park. It was relatively deserted so we were almost alone for a few minutes in a city of 37,000,000 people!

So – funny story about the cherry blossoms. We were wandering through the park. It’s a Sunday so there were heaps of people there with their tarpaulins and picnics. Seemed to be some competitive finska going on as well.

Dogs and families were all enjoying a slightly warmer day in Tokyo. But there was not much sign of the cherry blossom. In fact we could only find one tree in the park that was properly in bloom.

The blue dot is where we took our artistic cherry blossom shots 🙂

But there was not much more sign of cherry blossom in the park… I suspect the really cold days at the end of last week slowed the blossom.

No real sign of cherry blossoms… however that doesn’t appear to stop Tokyo celebrating in the park 🙂

Lots of Dogs at the park, on leads, in bike baskets, in prams etc. Saw this particularly kawaii (cute) version on the way back to the station.

Late lunch of soba and udon noodles at the Shinjuku station again.

Found the massage chairs in the executive lounge the hotel yesterday. It was nice to just sit and enjoy the view of Shinjuku while getting our tired back massaged.

Quiet night last night – big days travel tomorrow!

End of day 18 – approximately 14,000 steps 10.5 kms
